GERMANY 2006
Das Buch zur Fußball-WM
The Football World Cup Book

Only four days after the end of the football World Cup – and 24 hours early – the book “GERMANY 2006” has already been published by Das Neue Berlin. The work, whose editorial material was written by ARD sports presenter Monica Lierhaus - she is also the publishing editor - reports on every game, contains an extensive statistical section and is generously illustrated with over 350 photographs. Part of the text and all the photo captions are in English.

Day to day reports are provided by Gregor Derichs, Ralph Durry, Erik Eggers, Rainer Kalb, Ronald Reng, Jens-Jörg Rieck, Oliver Trust and Gottfried Weise. Christoph Dieckmann, who writes for “Die Zeit”, gives his World Cup feelings from a German point of view.

To round off the book there is an historical section which is of particular authenticity. Among others the reporters and journalists Heinz-Florian Oertel, Hartmut Scherzer, the Swede Wolf Lyberg and Wolfgang Hartwig describe their experiences at the 17 previous World Cups. Also represented by authorised contributions are the late French player Lucien Laurent (who scored the first goal in 1930), the Czech goalkeeper Frantisek Planicka and the 1954 German team captain Fritz Walter.
